brother MFC-9600 vista 64 print drivers not working

I am having issues with the built in brother MFC-9600 multifunction printer
drivers. The printer only prints out a blank page. I contacted Brother
support and determined that it is not a hardware issue as we were able to
emulate the brother printer driver using the built in HP Laserjet IIP driver.

Using the HP driver, the document prints (but not at a decent resolution
that the brother is capable of). Brother suggested I contact Microsoft phone
support as the problem is with the drivers however Microsoft were not able to
help unless I pay.

Brother stated that they do not write the drivers, but that they are done by
Microsoft and are built in to Vista (and XP for that matter). There are no
available driver downloads for this model from brother. When I was running
XP, the printer worked fine. Now with Vista 64, it fails to print correctly.
Photocopying and faxing work fine, just not printing.

System Details:
Intel Quad Core 2.40 GHz CPU
ASUS P5NE Motherboard
4.0 GB Ram
Windows Vista 64 Ultimate

Any recommendations?

Brother provided the drivers for Vista.

Is the printer connected over USB or LPT?

an HP Jetdirect 500X (3 port). Only blank pages will print

I went to the Brother site and they should the MFC9600 as "built-in".
But the MFC9600 is not available in the Brother drivers list in Vista

Domenchini, I read that you had an issue with your Brother Printer, I work
with the Windows Vista Outreach Team and would like to help. I am not a
support tech, but I can suggest that you try a couple of things, first you
should run and download the latest Vista updates, and then Restart your
machine. Then try to re-install the printer, Vista should be able to find and
install that printer automatically. If that doesn’t work let me know and we
can look at other solutions.
I hope that helps

hi rick, thanks for offering to help. Updating vista was the first thing i
tried. all my updates are current. Windows detects the brother printer and
installs the built in drivers, but still, the page comes out blank...i went
through a whole bunch of trials while speaking to a brother tech guy, and he
said it's definitely a driver problem, but they (brother) don't offer any...

Ok Jeff, I am looking into this a bit further for you. It may be that your
printer is not built to run with 64-bit Vista. I am going to refer your post
to a MS Tech and see if he will be able to help you out further. I will
continue to search for you though.
Rick

site does not list for driver for SBS 2003? Please help!

For Windows 2003, use XP drivers.

I am having a problem reinstalling a Brother MFC 8440 on vista home
premium. The print worked fine until recently. The first sign of trouble
was when I would start the computer it would alway reinstall the
drivers. Then all of a sudden it does not recognize the printer at all.
I have downloaded the updated drivers from the Brother website and it
will not completely install. When it time to plug in the usb and turn on
the printer it stops responding at that point. To sum this all up, the
computer does not recognize the printer to install as plug and play, and
it won't in stall the drivers from the manufacturers website. Help
anybody!!

I just downloaded and installed the MFC-9700 native drivers from
'Windows XP/x64 Edition Support for Brother Printer/MFC/FAX/DCP'
(http://www.brother.com/E-ftp/windowsxp/us.html) for my Vista x64
machine for use with my MFC-9600 and it's working great with the
MCF-9660 driver. Prior to this I was having the same printing issues as
you.
