We've had a happily running Win2K domain for a few years now.
Our users run a login script that has a lot of commands that look like this
(15 or so printers worth) :
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /in /n\\server\LaserJet8000
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /in /n\\server\LaserJet4050
etc.
Suddenly on Friday, a bunch of machines (all Win2K based; our WinXP
machines don't have this issue) would only recognize 8 or the 15 printers.
As far as we know, we didn't change the infrastructure beyond adding a
print queue on Friday.
The others printers would show up on the computers as
"LaserJet8000 on server" instead of "HP LaserJet 8000 Series PCL on server"
So its the "sharename on server" as opposed to "printername on server"
showing up.
However, there's no actual connection to the server. The queues go
nowhere. They don't connect.
Event viewer doesn't list anything out oft he ordinary except that print
drivers are not being loaded.
I'm pulling what little hair I have left out on this one -- any tips on
what to look for would be appreciated.
thanks,
Jeff
