Can someone give me a clue as to what the problem might be here?

No previous problems in printing at all, but I have been away for 2 days and
just booted my system up. Now whenever I print, I get a series of black lines
across the page. Not completely across, but here and there and they always seem
to be in the same position.

Just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem.

Crud or paper resin swarf which builds up over time. As the 880 is unchipped
you can adopt a used cartridge inject with some Windolene (USA Windex) which
acts as a solvent for dye based inks. Swap the cartridge in and print a few
pages. Mopping off the head with a quality paper towel fanfolded under the
head completes the job. The head will move freely if you print and then whip
out the plug in mid flight.

This defect may be a number of things. If you can send me via email a
partial scan of the problem from a printout showing it (about 2" square
at 300 dpi with minimal image compression, in jpeg mode, I can review it
and give you some more advice.

It might be dried up ink residue underneath, but it may also be the
first signs of head failure.

Thanks Art, I may well hold you to that, but the problem seems to have gone away
for the moment, so I will see how it goes in the next few days.
