I am setting up a network with new dell pc's running Windows 7 and an old dell 1720dn printer. I click add printer, then click add local printer; however, I have attempted to add it with both the dell enhanced tcp/ip port and with the standard tcp/ip with no results. With the dell enhanced I could not find the port name so I could not continue with that process. I just have the IP as far as I know. So then when I share with the network under the standard tcp/ip setup, it shows up under devices and printer folder. The printer and copy's of it will show up. As far as I can tell the drivers are the most up to date. I try running a print test page to errors and no avail. they fail no matter if I change the port to dell enhanced tcp/ip port in printer properties. I have spent many hours trying to look up a fix and have come up with nothing. Any advice, tips, or comments on how to get the printer to print on command will give us the ability to run sales this memorial weekend. Thank in advance for your time. I hope to hear from you as soon as possible.

I have read many articles on refilling ink cartridges and have concluded that the minefield that Canon have implemented for preventing this is for the purpose of quaranting further income.
The IP4000 does not suffer from this problem, the ink containers are easily filled, I know of no other Canon printer similar.
Does anyone out there have any info on printers that can be readily fiffed without this chip.
Does anyone know what this chip does, it must be very smart because one would have thought that removing the power plug from the printer would have removed the supply from powering such a chip, does it have an internal battery?
I observed a gadgit that looks like a chip resetter, does anyone know where they are obtained from and are they for one specific printer.
I quess that this topic is a very sore one with Printer Companies but I am of the opinion that they sell their products without difulging the parameters which are of interest to the customer.

Do a Google search for "DeskJet 3420 OSX" minus the quotes and download
the drivers for your operating software. Most driver downloads for this
printer are free but make sure you trust the download site before using
them in case they send a virus as well.

No drivers = no contact with printer.

Most times the drivers will contact the printer and report it out of
service due to the missing ink, but at least that tells you the system
is able to talk to the printer.

I have a HP LaserJet 2055dn, which was fine until I installed Windows 8 on my computer. What happens is I print but then it crashes the system the only way then I can overcome the problem is by switching on and off again.

I have tried different drivers they were Hp Windows XP drivers which stopped the crashing of the computer but when I print stuff it is all out of line. Which isn't any good.

Does anyone know of drivers which will work and not crash the computer and is the printer compatible with Windows 8?
Thanks

Greetings from Belgium

I own a Canon MP540 printer and am very unhappy with the ink consumption.
Although I hardly print in colour, the (separate) colour cartridges must be replaced after maybe half a year ...
I was told that the fact that you leave the printer allways connected to the electricity network (socket allways plugged in the "wall", also when the printer is switched off) could influence that. Apparantly the printer would perform a service cleaning when it has been disconnected from the electricity and is connected again ... ?
So, my printer is allways connected to the electricity network ... and yet the cartridges seem to empty allmost without being used ???

Could somebody please confirm that my above statement, regarding cleaning after re-connection, is indeed exact ?

And are there other reasons fro the fast emtying of the cartridges ? Do they dry out ???

And last but not least, can I refill these cartridges (equiped with a chip) myself ???

Thanks in advance for any help an regards.

Hey I have been researching printers online trying to find what I need and it feels overwhelming! I am hoping someone can help me out.

I am an architectural technologist, so I am printing plans often and I need a printer that can handle a large volume.

The specs I am looking for:
-fast
-colour
-laser
-11x17 capabilites
-preferably two trays so I can have 8.5x11 as well

Been sticking to Ricoh or HP as those seem to be the brands that most people in my line of work use, but am open to others if they are reliable.

Thank you! :)
