It actually depends in which country you bought the printer (which by the way
uses Toner, not Ink).
In some countries the starter cartridges are missing a small white cam that is
necessary to reset the printer when a full cartridge is installed, in other
countries the cam is in the cartridge. In all cases a non-starter cartridge has
the cam.
If you refill a cartridge that does not have the cam you will be unable to use
it.
