lexmark x5150 (usb) - intermittent print problem

Hi

I have just installed a lexmark x5150 (usb) printer on a friends computer.
The installation seemed clean (no errors), test page printed fine and
printing from applications initially seemed fine.
However, this has now turned into a intermittent print problem.
When it *doesnt* print, there is no evidence of anything different happening
on the computer side (no error message etc), the print dialogue box comes
up, then the lexmark popup window with the progress bar, "printing started"
audio, printer icon comes up on taskbar, progress bar moves to 100%,
"printing complete" audio, task bar printer icon disappears. There's no
error message on printer control panel and NO printed output. The computer
doesnt freeze or lock and you can continue as if nothing has happened.

When it *does* print, exactly the same as above, but when the progress bar
get to around 10% the printer kicks in.

A reboot of the system solves the problem until the next time it chooses not
to print.

Im presuming that its a usb problem (sleep mode?) Does anyone have any
ideas?
