id like to buy an all-in-one. does it make sense to day to buy a laser
when the all-in-one's quality is so good and, more importantly, as
fast as the lasers. in another time, inkjets were not as fast as
lasers and ertainly not as good quality. id like to hear thoughts.
thanks

You are overlooking the fact that all-in-ones aka multi function printers are made in using either inkjet technology or laser technology.

The main thing that keeps me from laser printers is that the color units
will me mighty expensive. Inkjet brings you there almost for free.

The toners for laser printers can be very pricey; worse than ink jets.

If you need permanent documents, then laser is better.

If you can get along without high permanency, then inkjet is just as
good. I make xero-copies of documents that I think should be very permanent.

what about the after market costs on these. it seems like i need to
buy 4 differnt cartridges for these all-in-one's. i would think the
aftermarket cost on those would be higher than a laser???

They're not as numerous as inkjet-based MFPs, probably due to the fact that
they're somewhat spendier initially (...but per page price with lasers is
lower than with inkjets). Here's Canon page where you can check them out both
their inkjet and laser MFPs:
