Hi all -

I'm trying to migrate our old print server over to the new print server
using Print Migrator 3.1

I ran the Print Migrator to backup all print queues, drivers, ports,etc...on
the old print server, and ran the restore to the new print server. After the
restored. I notice that a few print queues, Printer ports, Print Processors,
and print monitor are missing. Checked on the pm.log, didn't find anything.

The old print server running Windows 2000 with SP4. The new print server is
Windows 2003 R2 Standard 32 bits with SP1.

I don't know if I missed anything during the backup and restore using Print
Migrator 3.1 tool.

I would really appreciate all of the help from the experts out there.

Print migrator will not migrate 3rd party port monitors. Reinstall the Port
monitor

Print Migrator will not migrate printer drivers that use a cab file.
Reinstall the printer driver

Look for the eventlog entries when the spooler was started for a list of
printer drivers that did not migrate.

After you have installed the 3rd party port monitors and drivers that use
cab files, stop the spooler service and restart.

Look for any event log errors

Hi Alan,

Thanks a lot for your respond. However, it would be great if you can give me
more details of the solution.

Here is a little more details about the issue I have:

On the older print server I have:

Printer (531)
Printer Drivers (149)
Printer Porst (488)
Print Processors (20)
Print Monitors (5)
*Print Monitors included:
HP Standard TCP/IP Port
HP Universal Print Monitor
Local Port
LPR Port
Standard TCP/IP Port

New Print Server (after restored using Print Migrator 3.1 tool)

Printer (528)
Printer Drivers (149)
Printer Ports (462)
Print Processors (19)
Print Monitors (3)
*Local Port
*LPR Port
*Standard TCP/IP Port

As you can see, Printer Drivers is the only one succesfully restored. I
don't see any error on the System Event log.

Am I missing anything?

Print Migrator does not restore add on software from the vendor. You need
to install this on the new machine. Sometimes the only way the vendor
provides an installation path is with the driver install. Once you
reinstall the software stop and start the spooler service.

you will have to check the registry for these. I know Epson has a print
processor that goes into the \prnproc\w32x86\3 directory (the default
location is prnproc\w32x86)
> Print Processors (20)

you should see an Error event 24 when the port for the printer does not
exist

Printer NUL failed to initialize its ports. Win32 error code: 1796 (0x704)
