The URL near the end of this post links a Vista compatible driver for the
DX5000. Is that the one you've tried? I'm surprised it failed. So far,
for my hardware, I've experienced that Vista drivers do work in Win7
without any tinkering. Or, you could extract the files but don't
install. Set each *.exe to Win Vista compatibility and then install.
Does it work now?

If that fails, though, turn on your DX5000 and go to Windows update. It
should pull a suitable driver. (Actually, your first trip to Windows
update after a failed DX5000 install should offer you a driver if it
isn't available from Epson. Unfortunately, Windows update often supplies
crippled printer drivers that don't provide all features of the OEM
software (like lacking manual duplex, printer jam, ink out messages,
etc.) It's always best to try and get a full featured Epson driver to
work.

Even my old Stylus Photo 900 has, at least, a crippled driver available
through Windows update. I can install the old factory driver but the
Status Monitor segment won't work. That printer's driver has SM3 and the
printer driver bundled together.

My old Stylus Photo 1280, on the other hand, works in Windows 7 using the
original full featured Epson WinXP driver because I can extract and
install Status Monitor 3 separately from the SP1280 driver.

I first extract SM3 and SP1280 driver. Then I set each *.exe to run in
WinXPSP2 compatibility mode. Then I run the install. But, like I say,
this works because for that printer only because SM3 is separate from the
printer driver.

Here's that link I mentioned and good luck.
