There is a possibility that it will run.
Will the printer emulate another printer such as Epson, HP, Postscript, etc?
If so, and the driver for the Sharp printer is not available from the Sharp
web site (If there is one), you may be able to use an emulated printer's
driver. A last resort might be to use the general text printer driver
furnished by Microsoft.
You will not use the automatic install process, and instead use the I will
select path.
Things get more difficult and involved if the printer is something other
than a parallel printer. (USB, Serial, Infrared, Firewire, etc)
You may also need to change the parallel port mode to SPP from ECP in BIOS.
Although this article is written for 64 bit windows editions, it describes
printer emulation in windows.

Did you look on Sharp's website for drivers for Windows 2000? If they have
them, they should work.

Does the PS in the printer name indicate the personality (language) the
printer will consume? It this device supports PostScript, pick one of the
Apple or HP PS models. The tray names won't necessarily match but it tray
one pulls from your tray one it will not matter.
