Bypass tray issues Ricoh

I recently purchased a bypass tray for my Ricoh Aficio 3110DN. I followed all instructions for installation. I updated all firmware and software appropriately. The computer sees it there. The printer in the menu sees it there. The config printout confirms it is there. The problem is every time I try to print using the try I get an error on the printer saying "Paper misfeed/reset paper". Now the tray has not even attempted to load the paper from the stack nor has it even moved to make the attempt. I reset the paper and it still happens. I have made sure there are no blockages or obstructions in the machine or the feed try. Am I doing something wrong or was this tray DOA when I got it?
