USB port not listed in printer properties

Discussion in 'Windows 98 Printing' started by Mathew Sullivan, Nov 4, 2003.

  1. I'm trying to install a new printer on a friend's older
computer running Windows 98. The printer only has a USB
connection. The Device Manager shows the USB port
listed, but it is not listed in the printer properties.
I get the usual options to select from such as LPT1 and
the COM ports, but no USB.

Did you install the software BEFORE connecting the printer to the PC?

No. Their printer was already hooked up, and I installed
the software without any benefit. I ended up download
the driver directly from the manufacture's website, and
the printer did show up in the printer folder. While
trying to do a print test, I got a notice stating that it
needed to print to a USB port, but the printer properties
would not give me the option to make the connection.
Since I'm working under win98, I probably should
uninstall everything, reboot, and then reinstall without
    the printer being connected.

    Thanks for the advice,

    Mathew
