Hi,

I am planning to buy Epson Stylus Photo printer. Since I am "serius" amateur
photographer my main concerne and top priority is printer photo quality.
Long lasting prints are not of such importance. Noise, features, speed,
stand alone feature for digital cameras are not important , I just want
printer that would match photo studio prints.

Now, problem is I dont have the money for 2200 or 1280 which I know are all
I need My budget is much smaller so I am looking in 8xx and 9xx series.

8xx series is much cheaper than 9xx series and lots of people are telling me
that in terms of photo quality they are the same and are matching photo
studios output. Is that true? Why spend more if not necesary for my needs. I
dont care for features which are not directly conected with the print
quality.

So far, my main contender is 830 since it supposes to have needed photo
quality and it is cheap enough. I am confused with such variety of epson
models in 8xx and 9xx series and I cant recognize important facts about them
which could be important for print quality-and which are visible to normal
eye in real life practice
Is it needed to spend more money for 9xx or expencier 8xx models and why?

thank you very much
Marko

The 900 series has more features but you aren't going to be able to tell
that in the prints you make. The 830 does a beautiful job of printing
photos. Just be sure when you buy one to nudge the cartridge to the right
when you turn off the machine. For some reason it doesn't fully park to the
right capping the heads. You will love this printer.

I agree. I have an 830 and the results are wonderful and makes really
excellent borderless photo prints.
I am using Fuji 270gsm paper which gives really glossy prints.

If you want the best photo quality you might also take a look at the HP
Photosmart 7960 printer, reviewed at the following:

While the gray photo cartridge does make great B&W prints, it also helps add
detail and sharpness to normal color photo prints.

It certainly looks as if HP has another money maker in the HP 7960!
Great photos and it will only cost you ~$100.00 ($99.97) _PLUS_ tax or
shipping when you need to replace the four ink cartridges. :^(

Any 6+ color photo printer made by Epson, Canon or HP today will do
the job. Print quality will be sufficient on glossy photo papers to
achieve what you're after, in general.

My #1 pick?

Epson 925 $119 refurbished with 1 year warranty at
www.epson.com/home.shtml -> clearance
or $150 new elsewhere

So convenient to be able to print right from the digicam card without
a PC attached! Also, cheaper than the others below, so the difference
can easily be applied to buying more paper (eg. $20 / 100 pack Epson
letter Photo Paper at Costco stores; $20 / 100 4x6" Epson Premium Glossy
Photo Paper at Compusa, etc.) and inks.

That new HP 7xxx series with 8-colors.

--

Epson 980C in Japan with 7-colors and direct to CD print capabillity.
