Hi all, I’m currently looking for a laser printer that can be used specifically for toner foiling (sleeking). I currently have a Xerox C60 to which I upgraded 2 years ago from a small tabletop printer Brother MFC-L2730DW. In terms of sleeking, the Brother printer actually produces excellent results (no specs or black spots on foil, handles smaller text and details, foil easily adheres at various temperatures...). However, it can't handle high volume (currently printing around 100-300 prints per day) and prints A4 maximum size. The Xerox C60 can handle volume easily and takes A3 size paper, however, we've been struggling with consistent sleeking results. Sometimes the foil is patchy, sometimes small text is missing, sometimes everything works well... it's quite temperamental. This causes us to do quite a few reprints (10-20%), which really slows down our workflow - and, of course, costs material. I believe that the reason is that Xerox toner has more additives (silicone) which makes prints nice and shiny but it's not good for sleeking as foil doesn't adhere to the toner that well. We have a Foil-tech foiler and use smooth 300gsm cardstock. I know that the printer is the issue, as we can get very good results on the Brother. So now, I'm on a hunt for a laser printer which: - Lays down a good amount of toner with low silicone content to produce excellent sleeking results - Supports A3 paper size - Can handle 300gsm cardstock (through bypass or preferably a straight feed path) - Suitable for medium to high volume printing I’m not doing general printing with this machine. The goal is purely to print solid black designs that foil cleanly and evenly. More than happy to buy refurbished if the machine is reliable - I've read that older machines are usually better for good sleeking results. I’ve done a lot of research, tried a few machines, but I’m still struggling to find one that really fits the bill. I’d appreciate any recommendations from people who’ve had success with this. Thanks in advance for any help, Tom
