black ink vrs. color

I have a simple Epson XP200 printer. I never print in color, always black only. Why do the colored cartridges run low on ink?
I can not simply replace the black cartridge but all the other colors as well. Anything I can do to avoid buying the whole set of cartridges?

Unfortunately, you use your color ink and black every time your printer cycles through the cleaning process.
Leave your printer powered on full time and it will clean less frequently. Dont worry about power consumption,
as is nill to none in the idle position. Let me know how it works out for you. Regards
