Cli251 ink cartriges for use on a canon pixma ip7210 latin model

I bought a whole bunch of Ink Cartridges PGI250 and CLI251, for Canon Pixma IP7220 US model, and I though they would be compatible with the Canon Pixma IP7210 Latin American model, but when I install them it gives me a message saying that the cartridge is not compatible. Somebody told me that there is way to make them compatible, without having to change the chip, just with software. Any help will be highly appreciated.
