Heavy splattering of ink with Epson P800

Just recently, I've been getting a lot of splattering of ink with my Epson P800. It seems the larger the paper, the more splattering I get. Fortunately, most of the splatter is outside of the image, but sometimes, it's on the image as well, which makes for wasted paper. I tried to research causes/solutions and could not find anything.

As owner of a lightly used January 2017 p800 I'm wondering if we have the same problem.
Photo paper is heavier and keeps flat in transport, but "plain paper" ends up with its edge
slightly lifted and touching the print head, leaving a smudge of ink on some of the edge.
As the print head returns toward its home base, you can hear the tap or click as it touches
the edge of the paper.
Is that the kind of problem you have or is it of another sort?
