Help with X9575 and Windows 8.1

I have a new HP Envy with windows 8.1. After installing it my lexmark X9575 will print, and fax, but will not scan. The Lexmark website does not have a driver update for windows 8.1 but has a driver update for Windows 7 published in 2010. Would downloading that update help me? I'm sorry but I am not as computer literate as most of you, and could use any help you can offer? Also I have Internet Explorer 11, and read somewhere that this browser can also cause printing problems. Short of buying a new printer what can I do?
