I just set up my HL-2240 B&W laser printer, after having not used it for a year or so. It is connected via a new, typical USB printer cable. Everything worked fine. THEN, I hit the GO button on the printer, and suddenly a really loud hummng sound started coming from my computer speakers! I hit the "mute" button on my volume control but the noise did not stop. THEN, after a minute or so it faded away on it's own. AND JUST NOW, as I write this, the sound faded back up, then disappeared again!

What the heck is going on here? BTW the printer and the computer are not plugged into the same power outlet. Not sure if that matters.

EDIT: 30 minutes later, I can report that the sound has come and gone at least 10 times. It fades in, then fades away. UGH.
