Ever since I acquired it, less than a hundred pages ago, this printer's paper output has featured horizontal bands - the denser the color, the denser the streaks.

Take a look :
  • Original test image : i.imgur.com/nNJTGBh.jpg
  • Test image printed and scanned : i.imgur.com/nNJTGBh.jpg

The printer's diagnostics tell me that the ink cartridges are full. I see no contamination of any sort inside the printer.

Can anyone tell me what is going on ?

In any situation with flawed print quality, the first step is a close look at the nozzle check. If it has problems, you risk a damaged or even fried print-head if you keep printing.

* IFF the nozzle check is ok, then try print-head alignment.

* It's great that you sent what I infer was intended to be original vs scanned result, but the url seems to be the same.

Solved...

The solution : I replaced them and the problem simply disappeared. The cause : the 'starter' toner cartridge that came with the printer were defective. I probably should have started with that...
