HOW TO print on custom size

This is a "How To" question so I'm not sure its in the right place but in any case here it is. I have an HP Officejet 6000 and am trying to print to a custom size paper (6"x2.75"). I am using inDesign and have selected custom size in the page setup as well as in the printer setup. However when I print it pulls in the page but after a brief pause just passes it on through without printing. If I put in a letter size page and print - keeping all the same settings on the computer, it will print and put the information where I wanted it to be. How do I get it to print on this size paper?
