HP Photosmart C4485 "goes to sleep" at dosnt respond

for some reason my Photosmart C4485 periodically turns of the little display screen and then wont print, scan or copy anything or respond in any way. However the green power light is still on, but it will not turn off

the only way i have found to solve this is to pull the plug out and back in


anyone know why its doing this and how to stop it?
