I have a Brother MFC-J4535DW. Lately it's been acting weird & it's only 2 years old. I got it from Best Buy in January 2023. Yesterday, I heard a sound coming from the printer that I haven't heard before. It reminds me of the Doppler Effect. When a police car passes you, the siren has a high frequency that goes down as the car recedes from you. That's exactly what it sounds like. I used to be able to let the printer do an automatic print-head alignment. Now it won't let me do an automatic print-head alignment. I must do a manual print-head alignment. Every few days I have to re-clean the printheads. Just printing a single page takes forever. Maybe doing a factory reset will help. Anyway, I'm wondering about buying a color laser & I have a few questions. I've read online that there are 2 ways that laser printers create text. One uses a laser to scan the drum. The other uses an array of LEDs. Based on what I've read online, LED printers are smaller, lighter & more reliable than laser printers. But which companies make LED printers & which companies make laser printers? I think that Brother is the only 1 that makes LED printers & Canon & HP make laser printers. I read online about polymer toner. What is that? What maintenance is involved? Laser printers have a lot of replaceable parts. I saw a Brother color laser (Brother MFC L8900CDW) on the Best Buy website. It's a business printer that comes with a tricolor cartridge. Yet the pictures of the inside of the printer show 3 color cartridges. That sounds like the old inkjet printers that came with 2 cartridges - 1 tricolor cartridge & one black cartridge. The disadvantage of the tricolor cartridge is when 1 color runs out you have to toss the cartridge & replace it with another tricolor cartridge. It that what a tricolor toner cartridge is like? One cartridge has all three colors & when 1 color runs out you have to toss the cartridge. Toner cartridges are expensive.
