Pixma MP780 and black ink usage?

Hi,

I have had a Pixma MP780 for a few years now and am very satisfied with it.

But lately, I've been having a problem with it. It has two black ink tanks.My understanding is that the smaller tank is for photo printing and the larger is for text/document printing.

Lately, my smaller black tank has been running out and the larger black tank seems never to use any ink at all.

Did I inadvertantly change a setting? Do I have it right that the smaller tank is for photos and the larger for text/document? Or do I have it backwards?

I'm very confused here and will appreciate any help.

Upadated Driver?

Do you subscribe to a driver update service or did you update the print driver or firmware yourself? I have reason to believe that the newer drivers are optimized to sell ink cartridges. You might try rolling back to see if things get better. Newer may not necessarily be better.
