print stops, then restarts

i am currently having a problem with my canon ipf8000. large prints will often start printing, then stop, and restart the print. it can do this a few times before finally doing the full print.
before september 2013, i never had this issue with the printer. any ideas what could be causing this?
i thought maybe the network connection was intermittent, or maybe a setting had changed
but i do not know what may have changed as i am the only tech using this printer.
