I have a Ricoh c210 multifunction unit that is stating that the toner
is empty - but it is not! I put a brand new toner cartridge in and
the message remains the same. I have turned if off and on but the
message will not go away and it will not print. It was working 10
minutes ago and the unit is only a year old.

Has anyone seen anything like this and what might be the problem?

    Thanks.

  2. Is the toner cartdieg OEM (an original manufacturer's product), or is it
3rd party or a refill. Some manufacturers will not allow their printers
to acknowledge refilled or 3rd party goods, to force you to buy their
products. They can do this by installing a chip in the toner cartridge
that expires when the cartridge get low, as one concept.

Other possibilities are a defective cartridge, dirty contacts, defective
chip on new unit, failure or glitch in software or firmware.

That's the problem of OEM cartridges. They have built in smart chips within them to stop users from refilling empty cartridges. As answered from above, only a reset chip can do the trick to reverse that problem.
