What DPI do I need?

I am looking at buying a new printer since my current one has broken. My current one says 5760 x 1440 dpi. I notice a lot of the printers I am looking at seem to have a much lower DPI and I dont want to downgrade. I am not sure if I need this DPI though. The only thing I use my printer for is to print PDF files but the print quality needs to be very high. If I buy a printer lower than 5760 x 1440 dpi will the files be printed at lower quality?

The printers I supply are great quality and my client using them for photo's etc

Resolution: 600 x 600 dpi
Multibit technology for print quality of up to 9,600 x 600 dpi

Where are you based as the company I work for are able to provide printers for free.
