I've acquired a Brother MFC J5485DW printer that I had hoped would work for bookbinding projects. It powers on and runs diagnostics, cycles properly, etc. But it won't print anything. The paper runs through as if it's printing, but nothing is on the page.. I've run print tests and print head cleaning diagnostics and am out of the ink that came with it now. My last option before sinking more money into it is cleaning the print head with a flush kit. It's been sitting for years, so I don't know if I leave this to sit overnight if it will improve anything or not; it's possible that I need to replace the printhead.
Either way, I need to access the print head and I cannot figure out how to get to it. I've not seen it moving across the printer area, but I've heard it. I believe it sits on the right behind the ink compartment when idle.
Is anyone able to point me to a maintenance manual for this model, or something reasonably close, and maybe the print head part number? Also, how do I release the print head to move freely to do the soaking/cleaning?
