Brother MFC-L3765CDW toner life reset, printer is bricked

I am new here and desperate. I have the above printer and purchased aftermarket toner (with amazing reviews on Amazon) and the 3 colors I installed worked great for about a week and then boom, my printer decides that the toners I had installed are not genuine, and at first it just warned me that it would void my warranty, and I'm like I don't care... Well, now it is fully not letting me print at all, even though the black toner I have installed IS genuine Brother toner. I can't even print a black-only page. So it's bricked. Read a bunch of stuff online about swapping out genuine chips for aftermarket chips. Did that. It now recognizes my aftermarket toners as genuine, which is great, except that it "remembers" that those toners were empty so I'm stuck again. I have read literally so much about how to reset the toner life on the printer by opening the cover, pressing back and cancel buttons together, then pressing the back button singly. That does not work for me. I have tried it so many times. I am about at the point to return the printer to Costco where I bought it and buy a different brand of color laser printer that accepts aftermarket toner. Anyone know how I can reset the toner life?
