HEEEEEEEEEELP!!!

I have an Epson RX585 connected to my PC which runs on Vista (groan!) I need to print a really important assignment for Uni today, but my printer has gone mad. It will photocopy & print that very nicely, but when I try to print from the PC (word document) all it does is continuously and reapidly feed paper, occasionally stopping to print a few lines of symbols at the top of random pages.
I have switched on & off, removed then added printer, checked I have up to date drivers in place, but nothing seems to work, and that is the limit of my technical knowledge!
All tips very gratefully received!
