Epson V39 SCANNER and Epson Smart Panel

Sorry this is a scanner question, but I am using Epson Smart Panel, which is common to both Epson printers and scanners.

After 12 years my old Perfection 1670 scanner died on me and I purchased a Perfection V39 last week.

I had the 1670 scanner and my Epson XP-432 printer, of which BOTH were recognised by all my software and Epson Smart Panel.

The V39 scanner installed fine and is recognised in all my software - except in Epson Smart Panel, which still shows the 1670?

How can I get my Epson Smart Panel to recognise the V39 scanner?

It is not supported any more. You can use Epson Scan 2

Yes I would like to download Epson Scan 2, but from where?
Epson don't have it on their website and where I did find it for download elsewhere there were comments that other intrusive files come with these downloads.
Any chance of a link to a 'safe' download please.
