Epson XP7100 only prints or scans with lid raised up, not down,

STrange one here guys. I have epson xp7100 that only prints with the lid raised high, same with the scanning.

If lid in in closed position it makes a short grinding sound and say printer error, turn off and on again and the error code is 000023

Strange thing is, it works perfectly for printing and scanning with the whole lid raised high (so you can see the ink carts moving along.)

Would wlecome any ideas, it works to well to throw out but its annoying having to leave lid raised
