On many Brother printers, a "failure to feed paper even though there's paper in the tray" problem is often a broken "feeder cam lever". To check if that's the problem, remove the paper drawer and look for a 1/8" square white piece of plastic on the lower left front of the printer (see the photo). If the piece of white plastic moves back and forth (left or right) easily when you touch it with a needle tool or long-nose pliers, it's broken and must be replaced. The part number of the "feeder cam lever" for a wide range of Brother printers is LY2579001, and it's available on eBay for less than $4. If you buy it there, make sure you're buying from a USA-based seller, not a China-based seller, so you can get it quickly. A video that shows exactly how to replace the part can be found at . I bought my HL-2270DW printer 11 years ago, and the part broke after printing 11,200 pages. It's amazing that a part for an 11-year-old printer is still available, but I think that's because this part eventually fails on ALL of the many Brother printers that use it, so the market for the part is large.
