Hello,
Bought my Printer last August. Setup was a snap and the printer has worked flawlessly until two days ago. Opened iPrint&Scan to scan a document, and an update for the printer software popped up. So I followed the prompts and when it was done I restarted, and Windows chose that moment to run several of it's own updates. When that finished I couldn't get the iPrint&Scan program to open. And It just went downhill from there. Went to the Brother site and downloaded the full software package and reinstalled it. When that didn't work I uninstalled everything from Windows and tried again with the same result. Back to Brother and tried the Uninstall tool before reinstalling the package. I did all of these things several times with no luck before finally calling Brother. Had a tech on the phone with me for a good half hour, just basically doing everything I had already tried. Then we got cut off and I eventually got someone else. The second tech had me doing the same things the first one did...none of which worked. I asked if there was a higher level of support and was told there wasn't.
So after that, these are the things I tried. I restored Windows to several days before the problem started, using a Windows restore point. Then I tried Restoring from a backup created by my AOEMI backup software. Also ran the command line utility sfc/scannow, and found I had some corrupt files which it fixed. After each of these moves I restarted the machine and attempted reinstalling the software package, then uninstalling, restarting, etc.. I even tried installing the printer driver separately, and the iPrint&Scan program separately. None of the above worked, and now it seems I'm worse off then when I started, because the first few attempts at reinstalling the software, the Brother Utilities program would install and function, but the iPrint&Scan would just pop up on the task bar attempting to open, then just disappear. But now when I attempt installing the entire package, or individual components, I get nothing. In other words, no Brother programs even show up on the start menu. It's as though I never attempted installing them. And I should add, I even tried turning off all antivirus and firewalls while downloading AND installing but the results were the same.
So at the moment I'm using the Windows driver and software for printing, and I picked up the Windows Scan app from the Microsoft store for my scans. They work but it sure would be nice to be able to get the Brother software back on my machine. But at this point I'm thinking nothing short of reinstalling Windows is going to work. If there's any suggestions out there I haven't tried, I'm all ears! Thanks.
