PDF/Print Software

Is there any software out there where the user could set the software as their default printer, and have it prompt the option of saving it to PDF or Printing it to the printer of their choice?

I ask as we are trying to cut back on actual pages printed and image those to upload to a document imaging system. We have a few apps that use the Windows default printer, so the users cannot choose a PDF printer or other printer if needed.

I think Adobe's LightRoom has the option to "Print to File".

There used to be PDF drivers that you install in such a way that they appeared as a "virtual printer" for output. It's been a loooooong time since I've used that, however, so "consider the source".
