Printing birthday cards

Please some one help me! I have been struggling for hours with something that seems so simple. I have blank cards which are A6 when folded, I need to print my designs on to them how ever can't seem to get it all to line up. I am printing from photoshop. I have doubled the size of A6 for my template page on photoshop and alter it to this same size on the printer preferences. can some one please tell me what I am doing wrong? I have also tried printing straight on to card but my printer won't take thick paper, if there is a way I can change this please let me know!
