Seeing double

I'm using an Epson Artisan 1430 with a Mac running Catalina. Recently it began doubling all vertical lines (oriented in the direction of paper feed), and to a smaller degree all lines that aren't horizontal. It's easiest to see in the magnified text sample below,.In a photograph, the phenomenon looks a little like camera shake. It seems to be aa software problem, but I've downloaded the latest Epson driver to no avail. I had the same problem before updating the Mac to Catalina, so I don't think that's the problem.Can anyone offer a suggestion?
