Seeking Printers that allow me to use ink I choose

I am looking for input or direction to a thread on this -

Have an Epson, had a HP... the "firmware" notices apparently I got my ink from Amazon and, in HP case shut off tghe print head. There has to be a product that is not just an ink replacement enterprise, yes?
