Thick lines on prints.

Hi.
I have a Brother DCP-L3550CDW laser printer and am having problems with pages that have lines added to images / text.
I am using SERIF PageplusX9 to produce various artwork. When I add a photograph for example and place a thin ( 0.5 pt ) border on it when printed this comes out at around 4 cm thick.

A4 page with artwork and underneath the printed result.
Is it a Printer software problem or a DTP problem?
