Wasteful HP

Anyone have suggestions on how to stop my HP Officejet Pro 8500A from wasting ink. I have used 1/2 a Black XL, 1/2 Yellow and 1/2 Magenta and just installed a new Cyan from the machine running printhead cleaning etc in the last week - I have not even printed a page.

I would like any suggestions except to throw it out a window. I really like the scanner.

Not sure on that model, but in printing preferences, when click to show print shortcuts (presets), there's another tab (Advanced?) - there's a setting (used to be) called Ink Volume.

On my 2 prtrs, had to click that option, then another "Change" (possibly 2x), then adjust ink vol. Click Apply, if avail - or OK, if not.

Best to make these changes from Control > Settings > Printers. R click printer name > Printing Preferences. May have to run the properties from Admin mode.
