The wife wants to have a printer to print photos. The biggest issue is that the printer might get used once every two weeks. It has been my experience that ink-jet type printers tend to dry out and nozzles plug. Would dye sublimation printers work better? Or has ink-jet technology improved? All recommendations welcome.

All good questions with regard to the best photo printer types, dschlic1. I have covered some of these questions on my blog. There is a decent amount of information on several models of inkjet and thermal dye both. See if any of it is any help to you at myphotoprinter.net

I woke up my Epson R300 ink printer after about 3 years and got it working with the 5 colour inks that were in it all that time. The black one needed some persuading, but after 3 head cleans it was OK.
