Canon IP8750 driving me insane!

Hi All, I'm new to the forum. I purchased a pixma 8750 last week and although I have no grumbles about print quality etc. The paper sizes are driving me bonkers. Although I custom change the paper size in 'my printer' printer say for example 8x8". The image garden or easy photo apps will only allow set sizes. So if I put in A4 in image garden or easy photo that is the size of the image it prints, regardless of my custom setting! So my question is, is it possible to custom change sizes
in image garden or easy photo (have I missed something really obvious??) and if not then what's the point of custom setting in canon my printer??? Aaaarrrggghhh I am seriously thinking of sending printer back :-(
