Epson 422 prints but now not scanning

My Epson XP-422 prints ok but suddenly when I try to scan I get the message that there is a communication error and to connect to computer - but I have checked all the connections etc and the scanner is part of the printer and the printer prints ok so it must be connected. I have tried everything but still the problem persists.

Can anybody help please.
