Epson R285

Can someone please help, I have an Epson R285 printer, I can only use it with genuine Epson ink cartridges. I have tried a cis ink system, compatable cartridges and a cartridge chip resetter, but nothing will unlock the damn thing, please can someone tell me what to do, other than bin it.
