Epson WF2630 printer is not connected

I have an iMac 13,1 running OS 10.9.5 (Mavericks). Recently I bought a new Epson WF2630 multifunction printer. It worked well for about a month and a half before I started seeing a message saying that the Printer/fax/scanner was not connected. I reconnected the printer and and the computer with a new USB 2 cable, uninstalled the software and downloaded it again, selected the printer as the default printer, but all to no avail. The same message appears and nothing works.

If anyone could help me with this problem I'd be most grateful.
