Hello, I have found an old hp deskjet 870 cxi printer, inkjet. It has been sitting there for some years, and now it doesn't go through its self-test page (for which no computer is needed) - as far as I can tell (from the hp support site and the blinking pattern of its leds) it has problems with the cartridges.
On ebay there are refill kits for this type of printer, however, being that these cartridges are so old and maybe clogged with ink, do you suggest I first buy new cartriges (and in this case, originals or are generic ones good the same?) and then when I finish those use the refill kit, or do I try straight away buying the refill kit and refilling the old ones I have?
Also I have cleaned with a dry paper towel the heads of the cartridges, which I discovered later you shouldn't do... so maybe this has damaged the cartridges?
thanks for any suggestions
