printer banding but not as we know it .....

Hi All

Please can anyone help with the printer issue I have with my Epson R2400. The cartridge holder is jumping and thumping on its outward journey and thin individual lines of colour are printed in columns through the image and continuing outside the print area ! Difficult one to explain so pic attached..

Is my printer toast or is there something I can do ? Please can anyone help.
