I have HP Officejet Pro 8610. Connected to HP Laptop via USB cable. Windows 10. Every few days the printer will fail to print and there is no document pending on the printer icon on the laptop. I then run HP Print and Scan Doctor and it fixes the problem and will print OK for another few days. I do know why I have to keep running the "Doctor" so often?

This issue is often caused by the Windows Print Spooler service, a corrupted printer driver, or communication problems between the printer and the PC. Since HP Print and Scan Doctor is able to restore functionality each time, it is likely repairing the printer port, restarting the spooler service, or correcting driver-related issues.

To resolve the problem permanently, try the following:

  1. Uninstall the OfficeJet Pro 8610 software and printer drivers completely.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. Download and install the latest full-feature driver package for the OfficeJet Pro 8610 from HP's support website.
  4. Connect the USB cable only when prompted during installation.
  5. Check that the Print Spooler service is set to "Automatic" in Windows Services.
  6. Disable any unused copies of the printer in Devices and Printers.
  7. If the printer is connected through a USB hub, connect it directly to the computer instead.
