There are fuses on your unit that can cause these symptoms when blown. Check for burn spot on the old cable. If there is, you might need to replace/repair this. The manufacturer might not tell you that that's possible but there is.

Certainly get it out to be looked at. That should never be happening if you have taken care of your device properly.

Although it might not be that big of a deal but it hasn't occurred to me ever before because of the steps that I take to ensure that my stuff are used the right way.

By "feint screen", I suppose you mean that the LCD screen that provides the user interface for controlling the printer is very dim?

I'm mostly ignorant about HP printers, but can you still read the LCD at all? Have you looked all over the Settings to see if there is an adjustment for brightness?
