Printing a 4" X "6 on a DCP-J132W Printer?

I am not very technical and I have just bought a DCP-J132W Printer. The first thing I found was that each photograph I printed seemed very dark.
The second thing I found was that I had no idea how to print a photograph using 4" X "6 that size paper.
Any comments will be welcome especially on my second point.

If you want a job done do it yourself so I did and after trial and error found that if I used a proper printing paper glossy side down the quality improved. I also found, unless I misunderstood the booklet that this printer will not take 4" X 6" paper. I should have checked before I bought it but I thought all proper printers took this paper size.
